After our longer trip across France, we did a day trip to Chamonix-Mont Blanc. The town looks very Italian which is not surprising since it’s very close to the Italian border. From here, it is possible to take a variety of means of transport to see different aspects of the Alps. We took the Train de Montenvers to see the Mer de Glace (part of a glacier that looks like an Sea of Ice) and an ice cave that’s carved into the glacier there every year. Via the a télépherique (a hanging gondola), we ascended to the Aiguille du Midi, a 12,604 foot peak with a panoramic view of the Alps. The view includes Mont Blanc, the highest peak in Europe. It was 23°F in mid-September!
